What is the free Soap Making Play Table?
This table is a beautiful template that you can print out and use it to create your soap recipes. It includes a practical old-style saponification factor calculator that you can use to literally build your recipes and get the right amount of soda (NaOH) that your need to use including discount!
… and when you are done, you can simply write down the date of your soap recipe invention and store it in a practical binder.
How to use the Soapmaking play table?
At the bottom of the table you can find a set of instructions that can help you in the process. But here is a short guideline on how to properly use it:
- First choose the fats/oils that you intend to use in your recipe and mark them by using the checkboxes on the left side of the table;
- Then insert for each oil the amount (in grams) that you intend to use for your recipe;
- For each oil multiply the weight that you just inserted by the saponification factor (SAP);
- Write down the result. This is the amount of NaOH that you will need to saponify that specific fat/oil;
- Sum up all the oil/fat weight
- Sum up all the NaOH and write these values at the bottom of the table
- The total NaOH is the amount of soda that you need to use in your recipe in order to fully saponify the fats (no discount!!!)
- Now write down your discount factor (say 8%) and calculate the final amount of soda needed for your recipe (“Total NaOH” x (1-0.08) in this case).
- Calculate the amount of water or liquid to be used to dissolve the NaOH as “Discounted NaOH x 0.7”
- Write down the date of your recipe and store it in a safe binder
- You’re DONE!
